Dear Friends of White Oak Pastures:
A sincere "Thank You" to the 300+ head of you that came to our Grand Opening Celebration last April. It was good to see so many of our customers and friends on that special day. I hope that any of you that were unable to make it will give us a call and come to visit at a time that is convenient for you. We are proud of the way that we raise and harvest our beef, and we enjoy having company. It is important to us that our customers understand our program.
As you may know, the Harris Family has raised cattle on this Early County Georgia farm for 142 years. What you might not know is that our brand-new, on-farm, state-of-the-art, USDA-inspected processing plant is now up and running. We no longer pollute the environment and stress our cattle by hauling them all over the country for harvest and distribution. It is the only farmer owned plant in the country, of this type, that we know of.
We've had a heart-warming response from our customers, but we also realize that we have not done a good job keeping our friends informed of our accomplishments. So here are a few quick highlights for you...
* Our farm is now "Certified Organic” by the Georgia Crop Improvement Association’s Certified Organic Program. We are the largest Certified Organic farm in Georgia.
* We produce our beef in a manner that is Local, Artisan, Sustainable, and Humane.
* Our farm and USDA-inspected on-farm packing plant are "Certified Humane" by Humane Farm Animal Care.
* All of our cattle are locally born, raised, and harvested to meet our USDA-approved grassfed protocol. (This protocol forbids the use of artificial hormones, confinement feeding, animal by-products, antibiotics, etc...)
* The farm and packing plant are also 'Animal Welfare Approved' by the Animal Welfare Institute.
* Our unique on-farm retail store is now open for business. All of the products that we sell are L.A.S.H. (Local, Artisan, Sustainable, & Humane) food.
* This past March, our beef won the Grand Prize in the Flavor of Georgia contest besting over 160 other Georgia products that were entered.
* Our processing plant is a zero-waste facility. We use a digester to transform waste into organic fertilizer, and a 30,000 gallon septic system to recycle wash-down water.
* In August we were selected by the University of Georgia to receive their Award of Excellence.

That said, we now have some announcements for all our friends:
First, we have successfully recruited Brian Sapp to run our processing plant. Brian is a talented artisan meat-cutter who holds his Masters Degree in Meat Science from the University of Florida. We are very proud of Brian and his valuable, unique talents that he brings to our company.
Second, we will soon offer our beef for sale on-line, through our website (http://www.whiteoakpastures.com). Keep watching our website for the opportunity to order all of the White Oak Pastures offerings direct from the source.
Third, beginning in October, Whole Foods Markets will be offering our beef in all of their Florida stores. Our steaks, roasts, and ground beef have been available at Whole Foods’ Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and South Carolina stores for several months now.
And our most exciting announcement - - All cuts of our beef are now available to fine restaurants throughout the South through Buckhead Beef. We hope that chefs and restaurateurs who are interested in humanely raised, environmentally-sustainable, locally grown, gourmet (did we mention prize-winning) beef will contact their Buckhead Beef representative and add White Oak Pastures Beef to their menus.
Sincerely,
Will Harris
P.S. Keep watching for the Grand Opening of our new online store, coming soon...
